Ägyptens oberster Chef der Muslimbruderschaft rief die arabische Welt am Donnerstag auf, die Verhandlungen mit Israel einzustellen und mit einem “heiligen Dschihad” zu ersetzen; er behauptete: wenn Juden erlaubt würde, auf dem Tempelberg zu beten, dann würden sie die Al-Aqsa Moschee zerstören und mit einem dritten Tempel ersetzen.
Mohammed Badie, der oberste Führer der Muslimbruderschaft, verkündete in einer öffentlichen Botschaft, die von der ägyptischen Tageszeitung Al-Ahram abgedruckt wurde, dass “die Zionisten nur die Sprache der Gewalt verstehen”, und dass die Araber von den Juden nicht auf Gerechtigkeit hoffen können, weder “durch die UNO noch durch Verhandlungen.”
Der jetzige Präsident Ägyptens Mohammed Morsi wurde von der Muslimbruderschaft aufgestellt, wobei er, nachdem er ins Amt kam, seine offiziellen Funktionen in der Muslimbruderschaft ruhen ließ. Er äußerte, seine Regierung würde das Camp David Abkommen mit Israel einhalten, und ernannte kürzlich einen neuen Botschafter für Israel.
Badie sagte nun: “Die Zeit ist da, dass sich die islamische Nation um einen Mann versammelt, um Jerusalems und Palästinas willen. Die Juden haben das Land beherrscht, Verderbnis auf die Erde gebracht, das Blut von Gläubigen vergossen und heilige Stätten einschließlich ihrer eigenen entweiht.”
“Die Zionisten verstehen nur die Sprache der Gewalt und werden nicht ohne Zwang zurückweichen”, fuhr Badie fort. “Dies wird nur durch den heiligen Dschihad möglich sein, durch hohe Opfer und alle Arten des Widerstandes.“
Badie, 69, hat die muslimische Bruderschaft in Ägypten seit 2010 geleitet, und war zuvor in ihrer Leitenden Versammlung mehr als ein Jahrzehnt tätig. Beruflich Akademiker und studierter Tiermediziner, war er in seiner Jugend wegen politischer Aktivität eine Zeitlang im Gefängnis, wurde aber von Anwar Sadat begnadigt.

‘Morsi harsher on Hamas than previous regime’

Vice PM Shalom touts security cooperation as Egyptian-brokered ceasefire between Israel, Hamas holds.
Defying expectations, the current regime in Egypt has acted more harshly against Hamas than the previous one, Vice Premier Silvan Shalom told Israel Radio on Thursday.
“It’s good for the public to know that the current leadership is acting against Hamas in a very tough way,” Shalom said, specifying that it is destroying tunnels “one after the other,” limiting movement and blocking it from carrying out terrorist activity from Egyptian territory.
“I can tell you that Egypt’s actions against Hamas are much harsher than it was under the previous regime,” Shalom said.
Egypt brokered an informal ceasefire between Israel and Hamas Wednesday night, after two days of intense violence that saw some eighty rockets and mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip into the western Negev.
Late Wednesday night, a Palestinian official said Egypt was mediating a truce which he said went into effect at midnight. No rocket fire or Israeli Air Force strikes on Gaza were reported overnight.
“The contacts Cairo made resulted in a verbal promise by Hamas to calm the situation down, and Israel said it was monitoring calm on the ground and would refrain from attacks unless it was subject to rocket fire from Gaza,” said the official, who is close to the talks.
Taking a somewhat different tack, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday said Egypt will “never accept any assault on the Palestinian people” and will stand by them in their struggle, Palestinian news agency Paltoday reported.
Speaking on state television to mark the Islamic Eid Al-Adha festival, Morsi said: “We will never accept any assault or siege on the Palestinian people. Egypt provides Palestine with all its needs such as food and clothing.”
Morsi added: “We do not declare war on anyone. Palestinian rights will not be lost, we are in the same trench with our kin [Palestinians] against any aggression toward them,” he said.
Morsi commented: “The blood of Palestinians is our blood, their life is our life and their pains are our pains.”
According to Shalom, Hamas thought it would have more freedom to operate from Egypt under the leadership of President Mohamed Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood movement that spawned Hamas. Instead, Shalom said, Hamas “finds itself exactly in the opposite situation.”
“The security cooperation between us and Egypt is excellent, and is continuing as normal,” he concluded.

Finland has called on Israel to lift the naval blockade on Gaza “without delay,” five days after Israeli Navy commandoes intercepted a Finnish ship chartered by pro-Palestinian activists trying to reach the Strip’s shores.
“The blockade has negative repercussions for the political situation in the Middle East and is causing unnecessary suffering to civilians in Gaza,” Finland’s foreign ministry added in a statement. (AFP)

Former US President Jimmy Carter visited Egypt and told the local Al Ahram newspaper that Israel may allow the country to increase military presence in Sinai in order to block terrorist activity there. Carter said he discussed the issue with President Mohamed Morsi, noting that some alterations in the Israeli-Egyptian treaty could be agreed upon by both countries. (Roi Kais)
